Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 20 first graders. Many of my students are English Language Learners, and all of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

The rug is where most of the action happens in my classroom. My students sit on the rug for read alouds, calendar time, class community meetings, and instruction in all subjects. Unfortunately, the rug in my classroom is a very uninviting place for learning. The rug has all but turned brown after years of use. It is too small to comfortably fit all 20 of my first graders, which creates many distracting situations for my students and me. Worst of all, the rug lacks any nonskid backing, so it slips as my students get up and sit down.

I want a colorful new rug with clear seating spaces for my classroom. This rug has enough space for each of my students to sit, and even has color-coded rows. The color-coded rows will reduce the amount of time my students spend trying to find a seat, as I can direct my students to sit in certain rows. There's also a colorful alphabet around the perimeter of the rug to help my students see where they should sit when we sit in a circle.

Your donation will transform my room. Rather than have a tiny, dirty, old rug that can't even fit the entire class, my students will be treated to a beautiful, spacious, and clean rug. Please help my students spend more time learning and listening, rather than trying to find enough space to sit.
