Give Books to Kids Who Read

My students need 14 books to keep up with their personal choice reading with titles like "The Wall, Growing Up Behind the Iron Curtain" by Peter Sis, and "Deadline" by Chris Crutcher.

At our small charter school of 108 students from grades six through twelve, we encourage reading for pleasure as an educational tool. As one of the English teachers and the volunteer librarian, it is my job to see that all students have the books they want to read. Since our students read an average of one hundred pages a week, the challenge of keeping interesting books in their hands is relentless. The reward is that most of our students love to read and we score one of the two highest scores in the county every year on the STAR reading test. The books I have submitted for this proposal will satisfy the reading interests of students in all our grades. I have carefully chosen books that I believe many students will want to read so that each book will be read many times. Your generosity will help keep this successful reading program alive. You will not only be giving young people reading material, you will be making a positive impact on their entire education and the quality of their future lives.
