"I am a new career changing art teacher who is trying to make a difference in a high need, inner city middle school in NYC. The school has been reorganized from a troubled school to a charter school with a science focus. I am setting up my projects as "Art Experiments", but I need to give the students a visual base of reference for the projects I want to do.
The middle school has never had an art program, so the students have had no exposure to basic art techniques, or art history. The new principal is adamant about having an art program even though it's a science based curriculum, because he feels that the arts can positively augment a science program. Both processes involve creative problem solving, and students need the creative outlet to understand many of the life issues they go through in a difficult neighborhood. An art room projector would give the program the flexibility to present the teacher's own PowerPoint presentations as well as visiting programs (MET. MOMA, local artists), and the give the students their own opportunity to show presentations of their own making.
This projector allows multiple uses to maximize the art education experience and allow students to really interact with, see, and show art that inspires them.
Your help will help expose young minds to the importance of the arts and the art process to their education and their lives in general.
My students need a projector so they can view art historical powerpoint presentations, instructional and tie-in videos, and present their own multimedia projects to the rest of the class and the school at large.
The cost of this proposal is $1,032, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ."

In theses harsh economic times, I was doubtful my request would be fulfilled, but you really stepped up to answer the call, and I thank you! I've had some projects waiting to go, so it couldn't come at a better time. The students can now have in-depth looks at Greek/Roman art and Renaissance art (both Italian and New York), not to mention a great way to paint murals, and present their own research work. This addition to the classroom will be greatly appreciated as I have a great collection of Art Ed. DVDs ready to go and interactive powerpoints they can work with. This will make both traditional art work and new media come alive! Again, thank you for your generosity!
Reviewed the project essay and sent follow-up questions if needed.

"My life is better because of all the great teachers like yours who care about their students. You deserve to learn in a comfortable environment. Always remember, you all have what it takes to be whatever you want to be. "
"Our country's arts programs have been cut tremendously over the past 25 years. It is too important for our children to have a creative outlet and to be inspired to nurture their own creativity. It's good for the soul. Good luck!"
"Hey guys! I hope you get all you need for your projector. I'm a motion graphics artist for a dvd game company, and enjoy the arts and technology a lot. Good luck to you!"
"I am a former NYC public school teacher and current DOE employeee. I know what it is like trying to survive on "teachers choice" money from year to year. With the economy in the crunch, it is even harder to expect teachers to pay out of pocket for basic expenses, much less special equipment. Keep it up - "
"Enjoy your art classes! As a student, I always loved to chill out and relax in art class - either by drawing, painting, or looking at beautiful paintings (via overhead) as my teacher explained the artist's painting. Glad to hear "Art" is still on class schedules. Creative Arts is mind expanding! "

"I gave to this project because I am a proponent of increased use of technology in our schools, and because the election of Barack Obama has encouraged me to start giving to my community."
