I am the library/media specialist at an urban elementary school which serves grades Pre-Kindergarten through grade five. Sixteen percent of our students receive exceptional education services and 87% receive free/or reduced lunch. I teach all the students in weekly classes and promote not only reading, but technology skills.

The students have no access to modern digital cameras. The students are limited to writing sentences as a follow-up to field trips and other special events. Our twenty-first century students cannot take advantage of research describing best practices because of limited resources.

If we had digital cameras available for student use, the children could work in teams ( a best practice), take pictures on field trips and other special activities, return to school and self-evaluate their experience(second highest degree of learning on the learning pyramid), create a digital story (twenty-first century learning)and share with others(high degree of demonstration of understanding).

By providing four digital cameras for student use, you will enpower my students to demonstrate learning more creatively and enrich their learning experiences. You will help my students reach a level of achievement ALL students deserve.
