Technology: The Key to Their Future

My students need 15 headphone Y adapters (audio splitters).

In an extremely diverse classroom, there are many individual needs, and reaching them all can be a struggle. I teach fifth grade at a high impact elementary school. Our school fights against poverty, lack of parental involvement and our students' own inability to see beyond the current into a bright future that is within their reach. We do all we can to provide the latest innovations to help our students see what they can do, and convince them that one day they can break the cycle of poverty, lack of education and hopelessness.

Technology is a foreign concept to most of my students, and is a needed skill in the jobs of today and the future, not to mention a skill necessary for today's colleges. We have received grants for additional computers in my classroom, but there are more students than computers, so we typically work in partnerships on each computer. When we are creating PowerPoint Presentations, searching the Internet for information for research papers, or going on virtual field trips, there is usually audio on the websites, that enhances the experience. It is difficult for students to focus on the task at hand or concentrate on the audio from their computer with audio coming from all of the other computers in the classroom at the same time. Headphones are necessary, but each computer only has a single headphone jack.

We managed to get headphones for the students to use, but we desperately need 15 audio splitters so that both students in front of each computer can listen and not disturb other students in the classroom. It will create a quiet, stress free learning environment.

Your help will make it possible for my students to focus on just the audio from their computer, help them to see all they can do with technology as well as all that technology can do for them, while preparing them for a brighter future.
