Budding Bay Area Actors Bridge the Digital Divide

My drama students need 2 digital cameras to record images of themselves as the creative, vivid, emotive, and beautiful people that they are. Images captured and treasured with these cameras will help them build confidence in themselves as actors, public speakers and young people with something important to say.

My students were born in the cradle of Silicon Valley, yet their access to technology at school is infantile. They are brilliant, beautiful, budding actors and actresses, artists, musicians, senators and teachers, but their cell phones are more advanced than what their teachers have to offer them at school.

We are working on improving our drama program, starting with our audio and visual equipment. Our current AV equipment consists of a TV with a spin dial, a dusty VCR, a tangle of chords and the same camcorder my parents used when I was in Middle School. (Yikes!)

We want 2 digital cameras to capture images of ourselves on stage and in practice. Some students shine on stage, others shine behind the camera creating permanent images of the ephemeral art of drama. We want all students to feel that they have a place in the drama department.

Your donation will make it possible for our drama department to believe in its mission of preparing students for a technologically advanced, artistic and exciting world. One of these students may be the next Oscar winner or may simply find a passion that maintains their interest in order to stay in school long enough to graduate. We appreciate your help.
