Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a rural town in Texas and from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 70% of my students receiving free and reduced breakfast and lunch. Being a small, low-socioeconomic school, comes with a various hurdles to overcome, mainly budgetary. With continued budget restrictions, it can be difficult to offer my students the needed supplies and materials needed to excel in the classroom.
This project will benefit my junior and senior, AP Biology course.
This class is a college course that allows students to earn college credit through examination. They are so excited to begin working on understanding the wonderful world of life sciences through collaboration, hands-on labs, and research.
My Project
My students are go-getters and want to push themselves to be the best they can be by taking AP Biology. This course is a college-level course that students can take while in high school. In order for my students to do well on the exam they need opportunities for inquiry based assignments. The easiest and most effective way to have this experience is through hands on labs.
The Mitosis and Meiosis Lab and the Transpiration Lab are two labs that my students still need in order to satisfy College Boards, 2 labs per Big Idea Curriculum Framework.
Coming in a low income school district, budgets are tight. It is important that my students have the necessary materials so they can do well on the exam and earn college credit. Please help me, help my students!
