Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 5th grade in a low income public school in Massachusetts. The school is close to an airport and 89% of the students are Latino. It is a high English as a Second Language school.

The school is 83 years old and the classroom shows it. There are several chalkboards in the room that have been covered by contact paper by other teachers that have occupied the room. I tried to remove the contact paper but it ruined the surface of the chalkboards, making them virtually unusable. At the present time I am using chart paper for whole class instruction. I have used approximately 4 chart paper tablets which is not the most cost effective or convenient teaching aid. When teaching a lesson I have to continually switch back and forth using the chart tablet which makes it difficult for me to hold my students attention on the subject being taught.

As you can now imagine, the classroom is outdated and is in desperate need of current teaching aids that are available. The whiteboard that I am requesting will help meet the requirements that are needed to teach properly. The whiteboard chosen will serve many purposes. The students need a place in the classroom where they can view items that I need to write on the board, such as spelling lists and math problems. They also need a screen to view items on the overhead projector. The board I found has both the whiteboard and the screen capabilities. It is also magnetic as it helps to post posters and other educational tools, such as reference documents.

Your help will ensure that the students will receive quality instruction using a multi-functioning teaching aid that the entire class will benefit from. Any consideration that you may give my need will be greatly appreciated.
