Bring real authors to our classroom today!! Help 5th graders at a rural school use trusted writing techniques to develop their own craft.

I teach in a very rural school district. Most of my students come from impoverished homes and are not exposed to good literature because it is not readily available. Although the Bookmobile visits our community weekly, most students do not have the opportunity to visit due to circumstances at home. Most students do not have the extra money to buy books to use in our classroom. We are focusing on improving our writing abilities this year by using real authors to model techniques that can be incorporated into student writing.

The books that are listed are highly recommended by Writing Project sites from around the nation. We will be using each book to introduce a particular craft technique. The book will be available for students to refer to throughout the year as writing progresses. It will serve many classrooms to come as well.

Help me to expose my students to expert writing. You will make it possible for me to help my students grow from low level writers to the advanced writers I know they can become. By funding this grant, you will be changing the writing lives of students for years to come.
