Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fifth grade teacher, teaching at a Title 1 school. What this means for me and the community around me is that 70% to 80% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch and 80% of our student population are English Language Learners. Our students not only have to work hard to understand the state standards, but must learn to be competent in the English language too.

Being in Silicon Valley one could assume that we would have the best technology resources right at our fingertips. WRONG! the opportunity only exists if one has the financial means to make it exist. We have worked hard to try and integrate technology into our daily curriculum. We try to provide ample opportunities for students to see that technology is more than video games and web browsing. The students are in awe with what they could do with the technology they have at hand, but find it quite difficult with the technology we are lacking.

There is only one thing that this class needs to help make our classroom completely technology enhanced and that is an LCD projector. An LCD projector would allow the student's projects to be accessible to everyone else in the class. It would give them opportunity to show off their hard work to everyone around them including their parents at our parent night workshops.

Your help in creating a technology enhanced classroom will bring countless possibilities to my students. With silicon valley right at their footsteps they will have a bright future ahead of them.
