Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello! I am a third year, first grade teacher. Two apartment complexes and two trailer parks feed into my school, and the majority of the students are native Spanish speakers. That is why my school is the only dual language bilingual school in the district! I have the amazing opportunity to be the English component of the first grade. My team teacher teaches in Spanish. The students are developing their first language and learning a new language. As a new teacher I am still trying to meet all the needs of filling a classroom. Due to the bilingual program it is important for students to have access to their first and second language. Listening to books is a key aspect. I love my school and the students that attend it. I would like to enrich their learning as best I can!

My students are still developing their first language while learning a new language. It is important for them to have language role models. I would like to have a listening center they can hear native English speakers reading their favorite books.

I would like books that are recorded on CD's. I want my students to read along to develop voice print match and hear native English speaking role models. I would like to build a library of books on CD's from a variety of authors and genres.

You will help to develop language skills for my Spanish and English speaking students.
