Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My kids are a hard working and highly engaged class of fourth graders in the Bronx. My students are very curious about the world around them, especially how kids in the world live.

We have learned about a UNICEF project to involve New York City students to create decorated tee shirts to send to kids who have suffered the ravages of civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We want our kids' designs, graphics and messages to create a bond between our kids and the kids who've been forced to fight in the civil war. Our hope is that our messages and designs will create a connection between my kids and the kids in the DRC and that our messages and designed will help the kids in the Congo to heal from their traumatizing war time experiences.

We need 100 tee shirts and and sets of various fabric paints so our class and two others can create our designs. We want to send healing messages to the children of the DRC who have experienced the trauma and horrors of war. We want them to know they are not alone and that we hold them in our hearts as they move toward healing and recovery.

Your donation can help my students make a powerful difference in the lives of kids, far, far away, whose young lives have been ravaged and shattered by war. Your support can make a difference in the lives of children healing from the Congo civil war and in the lives of my kids.
