I teach high school special education. The students I have for this class are lower functioning students. They are the sweetest kids!!! Our school has about 1300 students. The school is of mixed ethnic and financial backgrounds. My students are middle to low income.

The class I have is a "School Store". We sell school supplies and other items to the student body for the experience of being a "salesperson", counting money, giving customer service, and being in the general population of students. The money we make goes back into the store to buy supplies. Also, we have two days a week in the classroom where the students learn living skills, and the money helps buy food and other items the kids need to learn how to cook and clean for themselves. We have become interested in button making and framing as part of our sales offerings. Unfortunately, our earnings are not enough to cover these items and we do not have any budgeted money to make this happen.

We need a lock box for our money, some signs to advertise the new buttons and framing, a digital camera with a memory stick, and a photo printer. I feel that my students will love taking pictures of their classmates and making the buttons and frames. Some of my students are shy around other students, and I feel this will help bring them out of their shells. Hopefully, these items will be a big hit with the student body at our school!!

Being an educator of 19 years, I realize that it takes people like you to make great things happen in classrooms all over the country. There is just not enough money in the school to help ideas come to life! I can't wait for you to see the smiles on my students' faces when they are using their new supplies!
