These California fifth graders are full of great ideas, give 110%,and love complex project!

Students cannot become proficient in technology without hands on practice! As teachers, there is a lot of pressure to incorporate technology into the curriculum. With digital video cameras my fifth graders would be inspired to tackle persuasive writing (composing "vote for me" election ads) and would be thrilled to explore their abilities as playwrights and storytellers (as long as they can act in their own movies). As a teacher of Social Studies and Language Arts I can think of a dozen ways to incorporate video and video editing to inspire students to write.

All we need are some digital video cameras! I have researched these small cameras called flip video (www.theflip.com) and they include the software needed to edit the video taken. They are very user friendly, and they don't require purchasing extra software. I see about 100 students a day. I think that 4 or 5 cameras waiting to be used by those who complete their writing projects would be incredibly motivating!

Your donation of one of these cameras to our classroom will make it possible for our school to incorporate technology into our curriculum. But what is more important to me, rather than meeting a state standard, is to see the fire in my students, to get them excited about writing, because writing can lead to so much more!
