I am a proud teacher of both 8th grade Science and Social Studies! My students are hard working, respectful, and enjoy the project aspect of the classroom (it beats book work)! The classroom is quite diverse and communication can sometimes be difficult; however, in the end, success is the product!

Unfortunately, in a lot of cases, low-income and ESL students do not produce products that are as elaborate as other students. The projects are not poorly done and do not show a lack of time or effort. For example, recently students completed a cell analogy project. Most turned in large posters with 3D objects mounted on. They were great! There were others though that just did not have the resources, and they turned in small projects on computer paper. I would have loved for them to stand in front of the classroom with their project (which were worked on with much effort) projected on the screen in front of the class while they gave their presentation!

A document camera can be used in so many different ways! As described above, simple projects can be projected onto the overhead screen. As I write notes out in both Science and Social Studies class, I can save the image (the notes) to the computer and then provide a link for ESL (English as a Second Language) students, as many cannot keep up with the notes, as they are constantly trying to translate, comprehend, and write. This piece of technology will be used everyday in the classroom. It has the potential to take the place of the overhead projector, computer, and LCD projector!
