Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am teaching 9th grade native and non native Spanish speaking students Spanish as a foreign language this fall at a charter school in a high-need community of California. One of our school's purposes is to prepare our students for colleges and universities across the country. As a result, out students are required to take at least three years of a foreign language and often continue on to AP language and literature.

For every level of foreign language study, students need to practice their conversation and presentation skills to maintain and develop their fluency in the foreign language. With one teacher to up to twenty five students at a time, one on one conversations between each student and the teacher is hardly feasible. Voice recorders make the one on one accountability between teacher and student possible.

When students have a class set of audio cassette recorders and bring their own blank cassette to class, they can practice responding to various prompts (just like on the AP language test), submit their tapes to the teacher, and get specific feedback recorded directly on the same tape.

With your donation of these tape recorders, this learning tool is possible. These recorders would be shared throughout our entire foreign language department and last over several years of instruction, being used by many students.
