Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"Ms. C, this is B-O-R-I-N-G!" "Ms. C, can't we do something besides reading in class." "Shakespeare is so hard, I don't get it!" If you have entered an English classroom at any point in your life, perhaps my students' comments about Shakespeare resonate with you.

I teach English to severely low-income, minority students in the Bronx, NY. My students are predominantly Hispanic and come from families that have trouble putting food on the table, much less having the time to teach their children about the joys of William Shakespeare. Thus, my job is to help students understand and appreciate the brilliance that is Shakespeare's Julius Caesar!

I want my students to become familiar with Shakespeare's language and style. And every good English teacher knows that the best way to learn about a play is to perform it - to "C" it, not only the mind's eye, but the actual EYE as well! I am very excited about filming my students using this camcorder.

I want my students to SEE each other in action on film, to SEE Shakespeare's words come to life off the static pages of his play. Moreover, I want my students' parents to SEE the brilliant and beautiful performances that their children accomplish as they increase their knowledge of literature. You can open the EYES of my students! PLEASE help them see the a, b, c's of Shakespeare's literature, and help them understand that "all the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players!"
