Books: The Center of Attention

My students need a library cart with wheels.

Help! My students love to read! You would think this would not be a problem, right? I teach general music in a K-5 school, so I teach every child in the school and my classroom is on a stage! My books need a home!

Because of my students' high interest in reading, I provide a reading center in music class and during their music center time. The music class is located on stage, so the books are now stored in plastic crates behind the curtain. The crates are so heavy, it is difficult for me to pull them out each time there is an opportunity for the students to read these supplemental books about music. I have collected over 150 books over the years. We need help!

Therefore, we are in need of a library cart with wheels to house the supplemental books about music. The regular music textbooks are on a shelf in the storage room behind the curtain. We usually have students help with these books when the time comes to use them. They carry about 5 at a time and hand them out to the students and then take them up at the end of class. This is manageable. However, a library cart with wheels would allow us to house the supplemental books so we could "wheel" them out when we need them. At the present time, there is no where to store these books except in the plastic crates.

Your help would allow every child in this school to continue their love of reading in music class as well as encourage those that do not enjoy reading. Instead of having to dig down in the crate to find a book, which many times discourages a child from reading a book, the books would be sitting neatly on shelves to allow students to easily choose a book. Your help would allow easy access to the books each time students came to music class and each time they participated in the music reading center.
