Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Spanish at a very poor high school. In fact, it is the poorest high school in the entire county. However, our students are extremely bright and are motivated to succeed!

My students continually struggle against the odds of high poverty as they attempt to achieve their educational goals and dreams. They honestly don't have the financial resources to buy "extras", such as index cards.

Flash cards have been around since the dark ages, haven't they? Maybe not quite that long, but in any case, they are a very effective tool to use in the process of memorization. The acquisition of a foreign language requires a LOT of memorization, so I would like to make it easier for my students to memorize their vocabulary words by having them use index cards to make their own personal set of flash cards. These flash cards would then be used for the first ten minutes of every class session so that their vocabulary words would be fully memorized by the time their exam rolled around.

What an awesome opportunity you donors have to make a true difference in the lives of our country's youth! Not only does your help enable them to achieve in the classroom, but it sends a potent message to these children that they MATTER and that there really ARE very nice, giving people in this world. This message will strengthen their resolve to be just as giving to others as you have been to them. Thank you so much!
