Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am teaching in a special education classroom, specifically serving children with autism. This classroom is a center-based, self-contained classroom with students in 3rd and 4th grades. The students in my room are severely affected by autism, and are living in a high-needs community.
Our classroom is in need of a digital camera and a color printer with accessories, to support our students need for visual structure within the classroom. We do not have easy access to a color printer or a digital camera in our school due to lack of funding. Students with autism rely on visual structure within the classroom, without access to these things it is difficult to provide accurate and real-life stimuli.
It is important that our classroom has access to a printer and a digital camera to appropriately support the students with visual structures in the classroom. Access to this type of technology will increase their communication abilities and their knowledge of the world. Children with autism need to be exposed to many different learning tools in order for them to be able to generalize their learning in all academic areas.
Your donation will ensure that my students are able to access diverse and meaningful educational experiences. It is extremely important that we support the students diverse learning needs so they will be able to benefit from their education.
