Promising Elementary Classroom After several years of failing test scores... new leadership, high expectations, and the hard work of many teachers and students allowed us to meet expected growth last school year! We still have a long way to go before our students are performing to state standards. Our students have extremely limited resources, parental involvement, and exposure to new experiences, but this year we plan to change that. My teaching partner and I will be teaching all subjects to two classes of fifth grade students. We know that this is our last chance to make an impact on a wonderful group of young people who will leave our school for middle school next year. This summer, I stumbled across the website of an extraordinary teacher who used movie-making in her classroom. Since then, I haven't stopped thinking of the limitless opportunities that would be created for my students if they had access to the same equipment and software to record the many projects and experiences we hope to provide this school year. I know that these supplies will create an environment that will vastly increase student engagement in the classroom, tie lessons to the real-world, and promote the technology skills necessary to survive in our ever changing society. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when they hear the adventure we are embarking on. In order to make this project happen, I need to purchase the basics necessary to make movies in our classroom. Students need a video camera, software to create movies, and DVDs to record their experience. I've titled this project EagleTube, since I anticipate students will have many, many movies to share by the end of this school year. We plan to take this camera everywhere!! Your assistance will have an impact on every student in our elementary school. Whether it be the 40 students that will be involved in creating movies this school year, the students coming through my classroom in future years, or the students, parents, and community members that will view our videos...you WILL make an impact. Please help me allow my students to connect with their learning, take pride in their accomplishments, and have memories for years to come. We are on a mission to change the lives of our students, the perceptions of their parents, and our reputation in the community. Please be a part of this...we promise to send you a DVD!
