Movement is NOT the Enemy! I teach 20 at-risk 4-5 year olds in a full-day PreKindergarten program which services a largely military and low income area.

Many of my students come from an unstructured, unenriched environment. Many of my students arrive in my classroom with no prior school or daycare experience.

One of the greatest challenges we experience is how active the students are and how difficult it is for them to sit still for instruction. The balance/therapy balls enable the children to be able to rock or move the way their bodies need without being disruptive to instruction and without being distracted by their own need for movement. Balance balls also increase core strength, balance, and coordination without requiring a great deal of space to accommodate them. These balance balls can be used for whole group instruction, small group work, independent work, table work, etc. Students can use them in place of traditional seating on the rug, in learning centers, at the computers, and at their desks/tables.

Traditionally, teachers have spent much time trying to get students to sit still and maintain proper posture in the classroom. Many students have difficulty focusing when they are forced to be sedentary or still as their bodies crave motion and movement. By providing my students with these balance balls, you are providing them with opportunities to learn in a manner that meets the needs of their bodies and their brains without necessitating the exclusion of either part.
