My students need 30 copies of both "Stargirl" and "Bronx Masquerade" to follow state-created modules for English I.

Middle school students will be reaching for the stars this year while reading new novels in the classroom. I teach English I Honors and 8th grade ELA at a middle school. The school is located in a very high-need community. We have just learned that over 70% of the population is at- or below- the poverty level. These students will benefit greatly from receiving these books.

The state has issued a new curriculum this year trying to incorporate all of the state standards into modules created specifically for English I. These two books are used in the modules that are consistent with the state standards. The middle school does not have either of these books as a class set.

The two books that I have selected are the two books that are used in the state mandated curriculum for English I. By procuring copies of books for each student it would greatly enhance the daily instruction of the book. If each student was able to have their own copy in front of them for all of the activities it would allow the lessons to go more smoothly.

With your help it will make it possible for all of my students to be able to keep up with daily lessons in each novel. Giving each student a copy of the novel will allow them the opportunity to stay involved in class and have a sense of ownership over the text.
