We are a Wonder Years classroom - a preschool program for four and five year olds. The children in my classroom are from low-income homes – 70% of the kids are receiving free or reduced lunches – and considered high risk for future failure in school. This is the first time the majority of the children have been in a school setting and grow leaps and bounds throughout the year. The children have a natural love for books, music, and playing, creating, and learning.

Our classroom is very technology deprived. We have a computer and CD player as our only technology resources. Occasionally I will borrow a camera to record monumental moments in our classroom (or Aha! moments) and the children LOVE it. They enjoy seeing their pictures on the camera, on the computer when it's downloaded, occasionally in the class newsletter, or in our End of the Year slideshow. Although they know I am taking their picture, when they see it again they will respond with "Oh! That's when I was...." or "I remember building that tower! It was taller than my head!!" I would love to use the camera more frequently in my classroom to record those Aha! moments and share them with parents and peers in the building. Often times I feel the other grade levels aren't sure exactly what we are doing in the room, let alone why.

With a digital camera readily available, I will be able to capture those moments and display them for the children, the parents, and others in the building. I wish to create a display that shows what we do in our spectacular learning environment and use the display and pictures to explain WHY we do what we do. They say a picture is worth a thousand words!

Your donation will help ensure that others know and understand the importance of Early Childhood Education and to see that we aren't "just playing." This donation will also give the children the opportunity to see their accomplishments published and celebrated.
