Project R.E.A.L. (Realistic Economic Awareness for Life)

My students need 6 calculators, file folders, hanging files, and a cabinet to run the "Bank" as part of our realistic economics unit.

I teach high risk fifth grade students who will be working members of our classroom community. My students range greatly in ability levels, so I want them to hold appropriately challenging jobs in our community.

Students learn best when the subject matter has meaning to them, so what better way to teach economic standards to fifth graders, than to create a mini-society right in the classroom! Students will apply for, and hold jobs, manage savings and checking accounts, pay bills, and choose how to spend their earnings.

In order to create a realistic banking institution, my students need a filing system (cabinet and folders), as well as real calculators to run the classroom bank.

Your help will instill realistic economic awareness in my students, and prepare them for their roles as contributing adults in our society.
