These hopeful NYC travelers are twenty-five of my third year, ambitious business students, of which ninety percent have not traveled outside of their home state. All reside in a rural, impoverished community.

None of the young future entrepreneurs in my classroom have ever been to NYC. They have studied about the stock exchange, Federal Reserve, and many companies headquartered in NYC, but it would really be something if we could grant them a once in their lifetime opportunity to see things first hand. We are a Title I School, which means at least sixty percent of our student body our on free or reduced lunch based on family income.

After thorough research, I selected the company recommended by the Future Business Leaders of America FBLA organization, which my students are all members of. The total cost to take twenty-five of my most ambitions and promising young minds to NYC for a three day experience that will change their futures significantly is less than a thousand dollars per student. This will include their airfare, motor coach in the city, hotel accommodations, and meals. These students are in their third year of my business program. I have watched them develop and become more engaged into true business studies with each quarter of each year. They continually shock me with the quality and level of effort devoted to their studies and group projects. I expect a high percentage of them to earn the Bright Futures Vocational Scholarship and go on to college. This is my first attempt as a teacher to take a group of students out of the state and it is only because I know them so well and have such high expectations for each of them. My students are diligently planning and executing local fundraising events. I will funnel all of their earning in on this project.

Sadly, I know a trip like this is not even something most of my students would envision as a reality given most of their families' economic standpoints. I also know how much it would inspire them to walk the halls of the American Museum of Finance and to stand at Ground Zero. I am confident with the help of donors such as yourself, my students will meet our goal and spend three days of their spring vacation engulfed in a learning experience that will help shape both their academic and career futures. I cannot match this experience in my computer lab, no matter how hard I work. My students have each committed to a two hundred dollar deposit and are working toward the balance requested in this proposal. You are just one click away from bringing this experience to life for them.
