It's "Time" for kids in my school to read about current events in the world. You can help! I am a regular education, self-contained fifth grade teacher in a working class suburban community.

My school district has decided to focus on literacy as part of our district wide improvement project. According to state test scores, students are on average lower with comprehension of non-fictional texts than fictional.

"Time for Kids" magazine will benefit students in numerous ways. It will help students learn strategies, develop vocabulary, and key knowledge in content areas such as math, science, and social studies. I also believe that the magazine is written in a "kid friendly" way that is motivating to young reader. Having a class subscription to "Time for Kids" magazine would be such a great learning tool in my classroom. I would incorporate the magazine in my literacy workstations during the Language Arts class period. This will allow me to work with my students who need extra help reading non-fictional text. My project needs 30 subscriptions of the magazine Time for Kids.
