Making Learning Fun

My students need 11 math games so they can practice their language arts, math, and reasoning and logic skills in a fun and creative way.

Imagine you have entered a new country and within that same year you are expected to pass your state tests for fifth grade. The tests will be given in a language you have just started learning. My students have to face this near impossible task. 100% of my students get free lunch. 100% of my students are from a low economic background. Yet 100% of my students are expected to pass fifth grade standards tests when they enter my class with little or no English ability. The pressure is high. They need to learn English. They need to learn math. They need to learn science. And everything needs to be tested. There are so many tests that there is no time to learn, let alone have fun. But we all learn best when something is fun. You remember more if you are interested and motivated to learn. Games are the answer. My goal is to bring the fun back into learning. I want to provide my students with games to keep them motivated to learn. Games like Decimal Fraction, Score One, Geometry Quizmo, and Pizza Party Fractions will let students practice and review math skills. Comprehension games will motivate students to read in order to play the games. A simple game like, Guess Who would require that students practice simple vocabulary to help improve their English. Your help will ensure that my students enjoy coming to school every day. It will not be the same boring drills and textbook lessons, but something enjoyable to motivate them to learn. With your help my students will become more fluent readers. And when you know how to read, the possibilities are endless.
