Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am one of seven art teachers within a low income inner city high school in Chicago. My goal for this year is to help students realize they have a voice within the city, while also giving them as many life learning experiences as I can.

In our campaign for social change, we will study various ways of combining visual art with text in order to ignite conversation and questions within our audience. Of course, any good campaign should have buttons, but a button machine is out of the question within our supply budget. Each student is responsible for paying class fees, but not everyone can afford that. Once our campaign for change has ended, the button machine will continue to be used for many years to come by other art teachers as a fundraising means.

My students are interested in anything unique they can make to wear. Not only will the campaign for change teach them how to make a functional product, it will also teach my students to make their voices heard in a positive manner.

Your donation will help give my students that voice and that life experience that will take them beyond the walls of our classroom into their personal lives away from school.
