Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My students are special education in a high-needs community that have communication problems.

Most of my students do not speak or have a lot of articulation issues. They all love music and I get a greater response from them through music. The most non-verbal students I have sing when asked.

I read an article where another Speech Teacher got great results with karaoke,and I just knew this was for my students. I can work on all aspects of language and vocabulary and articulation while the children have fun. I have a t.v. I really need the karaoke machine and at least one c.d. to get it all started.

I knew this would be successful when one of my most non responsive students picked up the microphone in the lunchroom, I asked him to sing and he did, until we needed the mic for lunch duty. Hearing him sing brought tears to my eyes.
