First-Year Teacher Seeks Projector

Help close the digital divide in Northern California! My school serves approximately 500 students. Over 90% of the students qualify for free/reduced lunch, which is a proxy for poverty. Each year, the State of California compares our school's academic performance to the performance of 100 schools with the most similar students, teachers, and class sizes. Compared to these schools in 2007, our school ranked 1 out of 10 (1 being the lowest academic performance).

The 2008-09 school year will be the first year that our schools serves fifth-grade students. Our fifth-grade class will be starting from scratch!!! In addition, it is my first-year teaching. My class needs instructional tools such as the LCD projector to ensure we get off to a great start this year.

I am hoping to secure a LCD projector for my classroom to make learning more interactive for my students and to meet their unique learning needs! It is my goal to engage my students, to teach them the importance of technological skills, and most importantly, reach students who are visual learners. The projector will be helpful across the content areas, particularly in social studies and science, where I will be able to use web resources, videos, and other visuals to bring the concepts to life!

Your support will make a tremendous impact at an elementary school in a chronically under-served community. The LCD projector will be used daily to deliver instruction in an innovative and creative way.
