The Write Stuff: Basic Supplies

My students need 90 composition books in order to facilitate learning by exercising writing skills, reflecting on lessons and life experiences, and fostering teacher-student communication.

Every student has a story--mine just need a place to write theirs! I am a new English teacher. As my ninth graders enter high school, they will be bombarded with problems, temptations, and excitements they may not have encountered before. In order to turn their experiences into learning opportunities, it will be my goal to provide a safe place for my students to express themselves. By doing so, they will receive vital practice in using the English language, and they will meet many state mandated English standards.

I want to get my students writing as soon as possible. Many of the clientele at my school are unable to purchase basic school supplies, let alone new composition books. As a brand-new teacher, I already have a LOT of classroom supplies to purchase, and I can use all the help I can get to kick off a great school year!

I plan to make journal writing a part of my daily classroom activities--students will reflect on the various issues that arise in discussions and in their lives. Imagine the pride students will feel when they hold their own journals and fan the blank pages for the first time. Composition books will represent infinite opportunities of self-discovery and academic success. These composition books will be an avenue to more effective self-expression and more open communication between each individual and myself.

Your support will ensure that my students will have the materials necessary to practice important skills and have more opportunities to safely reflect on their personal growth.
