This year I will be teaching 7th and 8th grade reading. Our school is in a rural community where many of the students are on free or reduced lunches. We have wonderful children and a great, supportive staff.

I plan to show the students that reading can be FUN. After completing a novel unit where I very carefully monitor their reading and help promote interest with outside activities, I ask the kids to complete an independent reading assignment. At this point the kids have just finished a book that they enjoyed reading. This is their chance to pick a book that suites their interest. I want to be able to fill that need with new titles and new, attractive books!

I have selected two sets of book titles designed for the 8th grade. These are books specifically selected to fit the interests of middle schoolers. A variety of titles and brand new books will help each student find a book that interests them. I hope that they will be excited about reading and excited about finding a book that they want to read.

You can help my students to continue to enjoy reading. By donating to this request you are helping to put brand new novels in our classroom. These brand new books will end up in a child's hands and take them away to a fictional world that they can enjoy!
