Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 6th grade math at a school where the majority of students are low income. At my school the students are determined and ready to learn new things. Last year I came up with the idea of having my students create a scale map of the school's playground. As I began to plan the lesson, I realized that I did not have enough yard sticks for my students. Because of that, my students were unable to complete the project. In order for my students to better understand scale maps, I want them to create a scale map of the school's playground. They will measure the distance of the playground and the location of the objects on the playground using yard sticks. Then the students will create a scale map of the playground. Please help and donate so my students are able to learn the concept of scale maps and enjoy it at the same time. Because the students at my school are determined and hard working, I feel that they will greatly benefit and enjoy this lesson of creating a scale map. Thank you.
