Help Smoothie the Way to Combat Childhood Obesity

My students need two blenders and an ice crusher to learn about nutrition by making smoothies, salad dressings, and fruit and vegetable drinks.

My fourth and fifth graders are in desperate need of learning how to make healthy eating choices. We will be using the blenders to make nutritious sauces and drinks to allow students exposure to new choices.

96% of our students are second language learners, and on free-reduced lunch. They have not had exposure to many other food alternatives that are healthy choices. We are doing our part to teach them that healthy choices can taste good too. We want to make a dent in the fight against childhood obesity. Especially in the Hispanic community.

By providing them with blenders we will enable them to make new choices, learn about nutrition, and then taste their own masterpieces.

We are always watching those commercials about "Wow, I could have had a V8." Now is my chance to offer my students exposure to a world where they can explore and create healthy alternatives to junk food.
