A Balancing Act

In North Carolina my moderately disabled, special needs students go to a Title I elementary school in a school district that cannot afford to supply us with extra funds to purchase special materials.

My students watch other children running and playing active games on the playground while they struggle around the small track that borders one play area. They, too, would like to run forwards and backwards and kick soccer balls without falling down.

Unfortunately, one hindrance they all have is an impaired sense of balance which makes running and kicking at the same time almost impossible to attain. A lack of good balance also affects many other aspects of their lives. With the core pad and woggles the children may learn how to move their bodies to maintain their balance through varying and shifting movements, such as moving to catch or kick balls coming at them.

With your help to purchase this equipment, my assistant and I will work diligently to help our children improve their balance and endurance so that they, too, may one day run and play with the other children on the playground.
