I am an Early Intervention Program Teacher (EIP) instructing struggling students in 3,4, and 5th grade reading and math. All of our students are in a high needs community, but they have a love of school and a desire to learn.

Many of our students experience life challenges at a very early age due to their socioeconomic status and the urban setting in which they live. However, the majority of our students have not faltered in their academics which can be seen in the progress of our school meeting targets based on our standardized testing. The students that I service are striving to meet targets as well but lack some of the necessary strategies and abilities in order to meet that goal. Some of them lack the ability to obtain school supplies, a quiet place to do their homework, and books to read, but they come to school everyday continuing to try their best.

The leveled library I hope to obtain will open up doors into worlds they have never known instilling in them a love of reading, a continued desire to learn, and an idea that whatever they want to do or whatever they want to be, is all possible with education.

With your help we can open doors for these students by giving them the gift of another world. This can be done by providing a leveled library which will include books about different characters, places, and plots. We can make them laugh, give them an adventure to excite them, or a mystery they can lose themselves in. This will also help me meet my goal of instilling a love for reading and a continued desire to learn while making their lives more enriched and assisting them in meeting their targets.
