I am a librarian in a rural school and hold twice weekly story times for all kindergarten students. I have the opportunity to turn those young readers into book lovers with a thirst for knowledge.

There are no museums, aquariums or discovery centers in our community. Many of our students never have opportunities to experience hands-on science and nature.

Through books and props the students will be able to experience the mysteries of science and nature. As the books describe the science facts the student will be able to use manipulatives to experience both visual and tactile reinforcement of materials presented.

This project will make story time more fun and exciting and should result in convincing those reluctant readers of the magic held in the pages of a book.
