My students need books that correspond with our core reading program, vocabulary centers to reinforce the skills being taught whole group, phonics centers to help them understand words (prefixes, suffixes), and books on CD so they can listen to stories and then practice reading fluently.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade in Arizona. Ninety nine percent of the students are on free/reduced lunch. The school is focused primarily on reading. We are working hard to get our students up to grade level. With little support at home it is up to the teacher and students to make this happen.
My students love to read. I want to help foster this love for reading by providing them with quality books and materials. With over 50% of our day focused on reading it is critical that, as a teacher, I have the resources to keep them engaged and excited.
We need resources that are educational and fun - books for independent and buddy reading, materials for centers, games to reinforce skills. With the supplies I have requested the students will be reading quality literature and participating in hands on activities that will cement what they are learning in their minds.
You will make it possible for my students to become better readers. You will give them the extra push they need to be reading at a second grade level.
