Please help the children of Connecticut succeed. I teach a fun loving fifth grade class in an inner city school and my students face difficult challenges, from poverty and drugs, to being raised in single-family homes. This district is 98% poverty level. My students have little background knowledge, are English language learners, and lack interpersonal skills.

Growing up in an environment with only one parent at home often leads to students lacking in social skills. This rug and easel is essential in my room to promote social and emotional growth for my students, by allowing them to come together in a central meeting area. Providing a rug for my classroom will serve as our meeting area, and as a healthy social outlet, which will enable my students to build upon skills that are necessary to succeed.

Morning meeting is the time we spend in the morning sharing our weekends and discussing what we are looking forward to in our coming days. This is also the time where we would like to get comfortable on a rug to discuss current world events, listen to a story, or just read and bond with a buddy. Often at times my students would like to get out of their seats to relax while reading during our 45-minute independent reading block, but there is nowhere to go to except to another hard seat.

With your donation you can make my classroom a room that comes alive with laughter and learning. For children who come from such a low income community, this donation would make a significant change in their learning environment that would benefit them greatly.
