'TechBots' The Robotic Basics...Puttin It Together

My students need 10 sets of each of 4 TechBot Activity Kits: The Obedient, The Predator, The Climber, and The Escapee.

My classroom,laboratory and course of study is a pre-engineering middle school curriculum for eight grades students with no previous engineering class requirements.

Designing a Robot to performs a given task requires knowledge of simple machines, automated systems and how to interact them with a power source, example: electricity and use a software program to write a program then download the intelligence for the robot to perform the task.

The resources I am requesting will serve as a basis for students to learn how circuits, the robotic body, and the intelligence are integrated in a practical way, thus the kits requested will serve as a hands on or spring board activity at the beginning to help students to understand the components needed to cause a task to be perform. Example the resource kits requested after being built, wired, and program (using a battery) will perform vertical, horizontal, and rotary movements to name a few.

When you say 'Engineering' it can be thought to be hard, programing robots students think its fun but it sounds hard. Using the material requested here we will immediate lay a foundation for simple engineering, using a fun approach, that will lead to the bigger task designing and building robots using our design program. Once you take the fear away from learning for a child and put in fun, the learning starts, when children are successful at small projects they become fearless in moving on to more challenging goals. That is what I need to do for my students to show them that they can be successful in this class and in this career area now and in the future. You will make it possible for me in the classroom as the teacher to have the basic materials they need to feel confident that this is something they can do.
