Mrs. C. Dulles Elementary School
Sugar Land, TX Grades 3-5

I teach 4th grade math, science and health. My students need to know that nothing is impossible. I want my students to know that each one of them is capable of going to college and becoming a successful career man/woman. When I was visiting a teacher website, I saw these amazing videos her class had put together. They used green paper as a background so that they could edit their videos with Pinnacle Studio and add different backgrounds. Not only is movie-making a way to integrate technology into the classroom, but it will provide these students with an experience they might never have at home. A lot of my students come from broken homes and are home alone every day after school to fend for themselves.

Here are just a few ways I could use movie-making to further enhance their education. We do a Science Fair every year at my school. It would be great if the students could explain their project on film. It would help them with the scientific process as they would be required to explain their project as if someone at home were to recreate it. Not only would we record science investigation/experiments but we would post videos on the web for other students to watch and learn from. I would love to see how excited the students become when they get to watch/share their videos. Making films would also help the classroom with team-work. This is something the students have a lot of trouble with at my school. They are always competing. Making films would be too exciting for them to argue or not get along. No one would want to be excluded from the activities. Making videos would be a great way for the students to learn about themselves as well as others. Students could also record math chants/cheers to share at Open House or to review before the state test as a boost of confidence and to help refresh their memory.

A "film crew" could also record as I teach some math lessons. They would be posted on my website or saved on a DVD for students to watch and review as needed. Making movies would be a great way to teach health as well. There is a chapter on relationships that the students could role-play. It would help the lesson to be more meaningful and real. They could work in groups to create different solutions to the different scenarios.

Kinesthetic learning is very important. It is my job to reach each student and their individual learning style. What better way to reach my kinesthetic learners than to use the movie-making process? YOU could be a part of helping me accomplish just that! Movie-making would help reinforce and review new concepts as we are learning them. Thank you in advance for helping my students become more successful in the classroom. I can not teach them alone. It is the experiences they have that teach them most! Thank you for helping my students know generosity still exists and how valuable their education is to us!
