Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

WHO LOVES MATH???? WE DO!!! These second graders are coming in so excited and ready to explore all there is to learn in math. I'm extremely anxious to share all the great games and centers ideas I gathered by spending my summer at a math institute! These ideas will help my struggling students in our high-need community find excitement and motivation to learn math. I'm also looking forward to my new year in a new grade and a new classroom. Our school needs all the help we can get to meet the standards for all our children.

With this excitement to begin this new journey comes the realization that this new classroom is missing a central location that is vital in my children's math exploration. PICTURE THIS: "Johnny" is working on a math problem and realizes that he needs some concrete help. He goes over to the "math center" to look for some unifix cubes. He searches through different shelves, lifting, moving, and opening containers, just to find one resource. He becomes frustrated and decides to try his best without them...

As adults we all know that when materials are available and accessible we are more likely and motivated to use them. If the children can easily locate the manipulatives they would use them more and improve their mathematical thinking and problem solving skills. This mobile cubby will allow the children the independence and opportunity that they deserve.

Your help in this matter would make a great difference in my students educational life. The use of manipulatives will bring excitement and a motivation to learn and explore to children who otherwise may just tune out learning altogether. Thank you for your support and consideration in advance!!
