Pop UP Books!

My students need lots of opportunities to read, write and create! They need a variety of pop up titles in the school library. After exploring library pop up books, students will make several different books. They will write "how to" directions with samples for a Pop UP bulletin board. They will need paper and art supplies for their po[ up books.

Pop UP books delight students! In this project students will have an opportunity to read books, write "how to" directions and create personal pop up books! Located near the Pacific Ocean, each week our school library serves 450 K-5 students, including students who are recent immigrants, speak a language other than English at home, are in special education and gifted programs. We have identified improving student writing as a school wide goal in our site plan. ELL and special education students also need support in all areas of literacy: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

As they plan and create personal pop up books, students will have multiple opportunities to practice literacy skills. Class and individual books will be presented to other classes, the PTA and displayed in the school library.

We need a variety of colorful arts and crafts supplies to encourage creative and imaginative Pop UP books! Students will be able to bring their ideas to life with stickers, stamps, drawing pencils, special papers and other craft materials. Students will be encouraged to create bi-lingual books in English and their home language.

Your help will support and encourage young authors, many of whom are learning English. Their special Pop UP books will be an exciting display in our school library. And then will become a treasured addition to their home libraries!
