Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

It's not every day my students come across a green tree python, Bengal tiger, or Komodo dragon. They don't spend their lunch discussing hibernation, food webs, or the reason for animal migration. Generally, they don't analyze the forces, motion, and matter around them, either. But why not? This year, I hope to get my third graders doing these things!

Often times, school subjects are isolated to the classroom even though the world just outside the classroom door is an even greater educator. I hope to expand my students' knowledge to include the world around them and motivate them to ask why, how, and what if. This is where you come in!

I am requesting the Animal Kingdom Photo Book Series, Exploring Life Processes Paperback Series, Matter Activity Tub, Force & Motion Activity Tub, and Authentic Fossil Discovery Set so that my students will take what they discuss in class home with them, on the playground, and out to lunch. I want them to explore topics they are fascinated by through books, experimentation, and conversation.

With your help, my students will be able to expand their scientific knowledge and start to see the world around them through different eyes. They will also strengthen their reading fluency, comprehension, and questioning skills without even realizing it!
