Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 24 students in an All Day Kindergarten class. My students come from a very high-need community. Out of the 169 school districts in our state, we are ranked 168th in terms of poverty.

Our school's resources are very limited, but my students' enthusiasm is inspiring! Most of my students were unable to attend pre-school, and for many of them, the only opportunity they have to engage in active learning is at school. These are creative, inquisitive children who are so eager to learn, yet have limited opportunities.

The materials that I am requesting will help build Learning Centers in our classroom where the children will work independently and cooperatively with their classmates. These centers include: a math center, a listening center, a writing center, a science center, and literacy centers. The centers are focused on developing the students' oral language skills, phonemic awareness, early writing skills, math concepts and science inquiry skills. The students use these centers DAILY so the materials would benefit the students greatly.

Your help will ensure that my students have access to the same educational materials and opportunities as students in higher socioeconomic communities. These requested materials will keep the students engaged in learning while building their confidence as they see their own individual progress. Fostering a positive attitude toward learning is so important at this early age and in this particular community. Your help WILL make a difference. I thank you for your consideration of this proposal.
