Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am one of eight first grade teachers in a high-risk elementary school in southern Nevada. 100% of our students receive free or reduced lunch, most are English Language Learners, and we need your help!

We as teachers strive to find as many ways as possible to get reading materials into the hands of our students. In previous years we have been able to make copies of decodable books from our reading series to send home with each student every week. Decodable books are those that feature the particular language skill we are working on each week, allowing for an extension of learning to occur at home. If each teacher had just one more box of copy paper for the year, it would allow us to give our students these decodable books on a weekly basis.

Budget cuts are hitting us hard this school year, and we do not have the necessary paper to copy the decodable books this year. The paper donated through this project will provide 120+ first graders with reading materials that allow them to continue practicing the skills they are developing at school.

Your generous contribution to this project will literally put learning in the hands of students who need it most. When your donation arrives at school, it will only be boxes of paper. When it leaves school, your donation will be books for first graders to take home and read.
