Leaders are born....they just need cultivating. I teach Entrepreneurship and Accounting at an inner city high school. Our free and reduced lunch rate is in excess of 95%. My goal is to help produce future business leaders. I do this through my activity as a FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) adviser. These books will demonstrate to my students that poverty is not the end of the world and that they do not have to become a victim of their circumstances.

In order to be a leader you must understand what it is to lead and be lead. My school district is constantly cutting funds and has even cut teacher positions in an effort shave the budget. We do not have money to purchase reading resources. We barely have money for textbooks let alone what they see as extracurricular reading.

Before becoming a teacher I was an accountant for 10 years. My first job after college was at Ernst and Young. One of the first things I was required to do was read "7 Habits of Highly Effective People". I had to be prepared to discuss what I gained from reading the text by the end of the week. The lessons I learned from reading that book and learning what it took to be a successful leader were priceless. I now what to share those experiences with my students. I want my Entrepreneurship and Accounting students to also understand what it takes to be a successful leader. I honestly believe that my students have what it takes to be successful, they just need to know how to be leaders. These books will help them. Each student will read a different book and then share through a Power Point presentation what they gained through reading the book.

Your contribution will provide my students an opportunity to read and understand what leadership is. It will allow them to read examples of leadership as well as different ways to lead.
