Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help me save the Scientists! I teach second grade in a Title I school where 70% of the children come from low-income families and 38% are English Language Learners. In addition, I am a Special Service Provider and will have 3 Special Education students this year. While at times such diversity can be a challenge, it is the part of my job that I find most rewarding.
Children have a natural love of the scientific world around them. In addition Science is a time that all children, no matter their learning style or their ability, can truly shine. Unfortunately, with all the emphasis on test scores and reading and math, it seems that Science gets left behind. While I do have a state adopted textbook to teach science, to use only that is a disservice to young children who generally learn best when they experience and do what we are reading about in our textbook.
I would like to enhance my Science instruction using this set of Science Activity Kits. The kits cover the following Science Standards: Plants, Animals, Matter, Weather, Solar System, Rock and Soil, Insects, and Force and Motion. Each kit is full of ready to use materials to make Science come to life right in our classroom.
These kits are perfect for young children to explore science concepts using everything from hands on science experiments to high interest writing projects. Every learning style will be reached with the activities presented. Whether the child learn best by hearing, seeing, experiencing, or doing these kits will benefit them all.
With all of the emphasis on testing, it is easy for teachers to focus mostly on reading and math. I want to make sure that my students learn the importance of Science as well. With your generous help I will be able to teach children in the way that they should be taught and the subject they love the most, hands-on Science!
