Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My 6th grade, low income, English learners need visual presentations to understand English Language Arts and History content.

All of my students are English language learners from low income families and many times there are mainstreamed special education students included in the classroom. Many of my students end up dropping out of school. When teaching English as a second language it is necessary for the teacher to make the regular content standards understandable using critical thinking skills. These students can't read at the grade level of the textbooks. Therefore, it is necessary to use many visuals to present information and model so the content or activity is understood by the child. With an ELMO all I have to do is place the picture under the projection system and it appears in full color on the screen. Textbooks can be displayed. Artifacts can be displayed. Graphic Organizers can be displayed. I can write on the paper or object and it is immediately displayed. It is a marvelous teaching tool and necessary, particularly in a room where students are learning English. So much of what I teach needs visuals that this tool will benefit all of my students and help them learn English and English content quickly.

The ELMO is a projection system that sits on a cart and displays pictures and text in color on to the screen. This tool will benefit my students immediately. For example, I may be reading a story about a castle and my students may not know that word in English. I can place a picture of a castle right under the machine and they can see it right away. Comprehension is immediate.

Your donation will help students learn English at an accelerated rate and make content compressible. This tool will surely enhance my classroom teaching and make it much easier for the students to understand what must be taught. This, in turn, will lead to a lower dropout rate which will benefit our society in the long run.
